220 Merrill: Birmingham, MI 08/29/07

*The employees listening to the daily specials

Lizz and I went to Birmingham and decided to go to 220, first time during lunch time. It was 2 minutes before the opening time 11:00AM, and we were the first customers of the day. Though the outdoor seating would have been nice, we were tired of sun's torture and proceeded inside, which was rather dark for a lunch setting.

We ordered a bowl of 220 Creamy Minestrone Soup with Prosciutto($5), Chicken Breast Tosca($12), Daily Special: Salmon($14).

Our server kindly added an extra cup to our bowl of soup, for she knew we were going to share. The soup was nice, maybe a little too salty for me. Yet with the bread it was okay.

Lizz's choice was Chicken Breast Tosca with lemon beurre blanc. It was served with artichoke, brussel sprouts, and buttery angel hair pasta. Though I've had better Chicken Tosca, it was pretty good. Lizz thought the chicken went well with artichoke, though she childishly refused the brussel sprouts, claiming that they were one of her childhood nightmares.

I ordered one of the three daily specials(risotto, salad, and fish). It was salmon crusted with breadcrumbs with lobster cream sauce, served over potato asparagus hash. I am not a big fan of salmon either raw or cooked, but decided to try with Lizz's push and the server saying "I just tried it and I'm pretty sure it will sell out quickly";lobster cream sauce sounded appetizing to me.

And I would say I was quite satisfied, except for the fact that it was a little too salty for me, just like the soup. Yet, fortunately, it was in my tolerable range. And actually, the best part of this dish was the potato hash with asparagus. Both vegetables went well by themselves as well as with salmon or sauce. My only regret upon ordering this dish was found when I discovered the diner menu, a different kind of dish, but still salmon.

$33 for two, excluding the tip. A little pricy for a lunch meal, slightly more than expected because of the soup. Most of the lunch menus range from $10 to $12, with some exceptions going higher but still under $20.
